New Server

Well, some 36 hours after I’ve switched the DNS records, it’s safe to say the bulk part of my blog’s server migration is complete. I’ve moved it from some shared hosting space I rent (which I will still use for some other things) to a dedicated server I share with some friends.

Obviously, this means much more power, and probably better performance - I can finally install Zend Platform on my own blog ;)

If you still encounter any issues (broken links, etc.) drop me a line.

What I have always thought is now official

Ever tried looking up your name in Wikipedia? Check this out.
I knew it - and the title says it all.

Wordpress Upgraded

I updated the WordPress installation running this blog to the latest version. Along the way, I added some widgets to the sidebar. It seems to work well and look good - but if you encounter any problems with the blog, drop me a line (by commenting I guess).

Thanks!

Time for some maintenance

My post from a couple of days ago turned out to be a bit more popular than the usual post (I should probably thank Cal and the DevZone for that…) so I turned up with a bigger-than-usual pile of spam to moderate.

I admit, the Akisment plug-in is great - none of them actually got though - but just the task of clearing them out every once in a while got on my nerves. So I finally broke up and installed wp-gatekeeper, a comment challenge plugin. We’ll see how it works, and if you think it’s too annoying, let me know.

On the same run I’ve decided to install a couple more plug-ins, and also decided to change the theme. Since I didn’t find any theme I really liked, I decided to use this theme until I make one myself (Yeah!). Let’s see how long this one would take…

My first spam attack!

I just started getting the first comment spam attack on my blog today. For some reason, it seems that someone really thinks visitors to my blog are seriously into porn and gambling.. maybe they are?

Anyway, I thought the WP-HashCash WordPress plugin would be good enough to fight those, but it seems I was wrong. I’m doing a little research now to see what technique (or combination of techniques) will give me maximum spam protection with minimum user annoyance. Until I find that solution, you might see some spam around - I apologize in advance for that, but I prefer having some dirty, offensive spam around than blocking comments to registered users only for now.

Believe me, I’ve been under worse bombardments than this ;)

Welcome to my blog!

I finally did it, and started my own blog.

I’ve been planning this for some time now, but never had the time until now. Actually, even now I don’t have the time - I just got used to sleeping less ;)

I plan to write from time to time about things that go on in my life - a large part of this blog will probably be the technical-php-and-open-source kind of blog - but I hope to do quite allot of more personal thoughts and experiences kind of blogging, assuming I will be brave enough and fluent enough.

Oh, and this blog is not meant to be a monolog - so if you have your own thoughts about something I write, please comment!

Cheers!
