About This Blog
Premature Optimization is my own personal blog. I hope to post in it quite often about what I think and what I do. I see it as a place to share my knowledge and thoughts with others. Nothing more, nothing less.
Here are some questions and answers about this blog. If you have some more questions, you can always leave a comment below.
Q: What’s with the name?
A: “…Premature optimization is the root of all evil” is a quote apparently originated by Tony Hoare but widely attributed to Donald Knuth. It refers to unnecessary, premature software optimizations made by programmers. I sometimes think I have a serious tendency for premature optimizations - not so much when programming but in other aspects of my life. Also, a large part of my day-to-day job at Zend involves optimizing other people’s code - so it kind of seemed suitable.
The hell with this bullshit. I think it’s a cool name, and the domain name was free. It was either that or badtemperrodent.net. (Yes, I like long names!)
Q: Who’s the wierdo on the title of the blog?
A: There are some who call him… Tim..?
The guy is Tim the Enchanter, one of my favorite Monty Python side character.
Q: Is this blog somehow related to Zend Technologies?
A: While I might be talking from time to time about PHP and things that happen in
Zend, which is where I work, this blog is not affiliated
what so ever with Zend, either officially or semi-officially. Please don’t make it more than that. I like
my job - but it’s only a job
